Nov. 7: What was your worst Thanksgiving food fail?

My worst fail was the year I burned the cranberry sauce for Thanksgiving (Christmas?) dinner. Not a tragedy, to be sure, we got along fine without it, but my main heartbreak was that it was that the bottom of the pot was burnt to a crisp. A 1cm thick crust of charred cranberries, sugar and orange juice. Tragic. I almost threw it away because it was essentially melded to the bottom of the pot. After soaking it  and plying it with all the internet tricks I could google, what finally ended up working was some good old-fashioned elbow grease over the course of a few weeks. Thankfully it was a stainless steel pot and not non-stick so I could use as much force as was necessary to chip off the burnt remains. I’ve never left cranberry sauce unattended since that day, and is still have the pot. So all’s well that ended well.
