Book Review ~ The Royal We by Heather Cocks & Jessica Morgan

The Royal WeOnce again I’m taking the time to write reviews of the books I’ve been reading these days. This week I finished The Royal We by Heather Cocks & Jessica Morgan. A light piece of “Chick Lit” fiction that is a good bit of candy for the soul. I’m not sure how true to the London Royal Lifestyle this book is, but as an outsider it is a great fictional piece about what it would be like to be an American living the dream of becoming a princess. Or, at least, the ups and downs that pave the way for such a thing to happen in these modern paparazzi times.

In The Royal We* we follow the journey of American Rebecca Porter who finds herself hanging out with her elite dorm mates while she is overseas for a year of university. Because, of course, random Americans totally make the grade when it comes to being vetted to live in the same dorm as the 2nd in line for the throne… but I digress.

Once you get past some of the obviously insane plot points, it’s actually a very enjoyable read. A classic case of a regular girl getting swept up into the lives of the British Monarchy and how the hardcore paparazzi effects the lives of those born into the public eye.

I haven’t quite finished this book yet, but I’m already giving it 5/5 stars because the writing is light, cheeky, smart, and funny, with just the right amount of cursing and sex to make it a great read for a mom like me who spends a lot of time censoring myself around tiny human ears.

If you liked Bridget Jones’ Diary, you’ll like this one.

About the book:

The misadventures of American Rebecca Porter who finds herself in love with the heir to the British throne, Prince Nicholas. Bex finds herself attempting to navigate the ups and downs of Nick’s dysfunctional Royal family, while trying to stay true to herself, her family and the love she and Nick have found. Can they find happiness in a world where their every move is scrutinized by the press? I have no idea because I haven’t gotten to the end yet, but so far the many shenanigans have been amusing to behold.
