My rating: 3 of 5 stars
By the time I had finished reading the Matched series all I wanted was for it t be OVER. I mean the writing was
fine not great, but the story itself was just terribly put together. I didn’t care about any of the characters at all. I was more than happy to start a new series and I chose Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi, and I’m super glad I did. This story is compelling and well written. The use of the strikethroughs even in the audiobook version which is what I read/listened to, helps to highlight the conflicting thoughts that go through the character’s mind versus what she says out loud, and I like that contrast. It’s a writing tool that I haven’t seen used this way before, but it works in this book. The story started off strong, there was a bit of a lull in the middle, but by the end the excitement started to pick up again. I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
